PART A– using f-stop, shutter speed and depth of
field controls
Using an SLR Camera and 35mm colour film, take photos of a variety of subjects under a variety of conditions. Vary the source of light and the amount of light. Use different f-stops and different shutter speeds to achieve various depth of field. Keep track of your exposures by noting the shutter speed and f-stop setting for each image.
Have your film processed by a photo lab, review your images, select and scan to your computer approximately five different images the clearly show how different shutter speeds and f-stops create different depth of field. Your images should show the foreground in focus and the background out of focus; the foreground out of focus and the background in focus; the middle ground only in focus; an infinite depth of field.
Put these images in a word documents and briefly describe how you achieved the various depth of field for your images.
PART B – using colour photography as a visual essay
Find a poem or song ... that moves you emotionally. Illustrate this poem
photographically using specific colors or color themes to illustrate your
poem's mood or emotion. This is NOT meant to be a literal illustration of your
poem (although you can do so as part of your assignment if you want). The
emphasis is on the use of color and using color to illustrate the emotion and
mood of the poem. ...
Organize your prints (at least 4) to illustrate your poem. Prepare them
as you think best to present your images and poem to the class through a
creative presentation and poetry reading.
